Another great article Frank. ‘Time’ seems another of those infuriating topics that you think you’ve a handle on, until you try to solidify your thoughts by writing them down!

When I come to mull it over I get the sense that there are at least two different ‘times’. The cyclical ebb and flow and natural rhythms of ‘existence’, overlaid by the bolted on ‘meaning maker’ we have established. Perhaps a third could be the merciless iterating process, piling instance upon instance, like the galley slave’s drum, driving us ever onward.

I like your term, ‘A scaffolding for holding coherence’.

If we compare ‘time’ to the freedom of a hypothetical ‘timeless’ dimension then it almost feels like a dimensional flattening. The introduction of time reduces freedom and limits possibility. Time creates the illusion of movement and the possibility of cause and effect.

Its as if a chaotic state of ‘everything at once’ has been hammered out into a story book.

Here’s a few of my musings on ‘time’ if you’re interested. They are vague probes in the dark ‘looking’ from various angles, trying to get some sort of picture.
