I also find it difficult to find a term for ‘god’ that sits well with me. These organised groups of ‘devotees’ have muddied the waters somewhat. ‘Absolute being’ sounds ok. Gurdjieff called it ‘the absolute’, although I have also read him referring to ‘His Endlessness and The Holy Sun absolute. A unity with ‘one law’; That law being ‘the will’ of the absolute.
I like his ideas on the ‘ray’ of creation; A process of increasing diversity; Worlds within worlds, infinity proceeding within unity. The process of increasing complexity is a descent; an involution; becoming more mechanical, a ‘movement’ from fine to coarse and greater density.
He also talks of a feed back process; An evolution and a ‘returning’. From coarse to fine. A refining of consciousness, vibration or whatever the currency is!
I think you are right. All boils down to the tension between separation and unity. It is a fine balancing act if one wants to carry on with our ‘earth world’ adventure.
If one starts to experience a taste of some underlying unity, then other ‘commandments’ become redundant. We find ourselves, one aspect of self, interacting with other aspects of self. Our thoughts, words, and actions become self-nurturing or self-abuse.
Self-abuse may well be an understandable protest to our predicament. Our world can be quite a thorny place.
