The financial scene appears to me like a whole lot of smoke and mirrors, but I would like to get some sort of handle on it. Unfortunately i’m not very financially literate.
It does seem that there are as many opinions out there on this, as there are commentators.
This originally appeared strange to me, as they are all discussing the same apparently ‘real’ quantitative, data-rich landscape.
Looking closer though, there is quite a ‘woo woo’ quality to it. I suppose anything created from thin air and based on peoples confidence will necessarily be a nebulous, mutable thing; A reflection of its ‘worshippers’ (and believers)
Can you spell out your thoughts on ‘creating a stable store of value’, for the financial layman?
Here’s what I think you are indicating: (I may be way off)
Instead of banks creating money out of thin air, the government would do it.
Each person (citizen) would be given a ‘sovereign trust fund’, Say of a similar equivalence/value to £1 million.
That fund would be more like a place holder of value, rather than a pot to dip into. Each holder would earn purchasing power from that value. We would provide a similar function to the banks; The value would be converted from value to capital when required for investment into infrastructure and services etc. The amount of capital available would be dictated by the size of population.
I like the idea that ‘people’ become the source of our currency’s value. This seems to be a rebalancing of a process that has got out of control. The system no longer works in the best interests of the majority of people.
The problem is that ‘good’ ideas, ie those that benefit the most people, ordinarily do not get off the ground, because they would upend the existing power structure. There is just too much (behind the scenes) resistance from those who would lose influence.
It does feel as if there has been a weakening of confidence though; At least in the western system. I think there is also an increasing appetite among the population for new ideas relating to this.
Things do tend to come when we are ready for them.
